Most who imitate Rumi do nothing more than that because his poems are already complete. That’s part of the wonder of the originals. But Bella Mahaya Carter's poem, “Rumi’s Field,” continues Rumi’s thought and attention into 21st Century sensibilities. This is a rare example of carrying the timeless inspiration of the original into the attention of readers who need to appreciate Rumi in today’s world. I’ve read Rumi for decades and i find this poem original and faithful to its source at the same time. Brilliant.
