Every line in this is exquisite, and I love how the poem hooks us and then only raises the stakes even higher as the poem moves. I really need to order one of his books
Hi, Apologies for this post going out without properly crediting the translator. This post was updated several hours ago, as soon as this was noticed. It is A.S. Kline, as noted in the footnote.
When one has so many excellent poems some will certainly pale in comparison! It's fascinating how a poem can simultaneously be considered one's best and one's worst work, depending on the reader. Poetry's subjectivity is one of its most enchanting qualities.
Holy effing cow! How I wish I could write a poem such as this.

Who is the translator? It would be wonderful if you could credit them too :)

Lovely! Thanks for this, Svetlana!
I believe it's A.S. Kline: https://www.poetryintranslation.com/PITBR/Spanish/LorcaPoemsLoveDeath.php#anchor_Toc127791577
Undoubtedly one of Lorca's absolutely worst poems...
If this is one of Lorca's worst, then I clearly need to read more of this poet. . .for me it's one of the best poems I've read this month

beautiful. makes me proud to be a woman
yes!
I love that poetry has the power to make us feel this in our bodies. Thank you for sharing, and for reading.
I love Lorca, he’s so elegant in each of his writings!
Definitely a soft touch.
This is the best erotic poem I've ever read.
Lorca keeps getting rediscovered and it's time for anotheer of those
critical paroxysms.
By an amiable coicidence, I am just now rereading Leslie Stainton's majestic biography (1999).
So happy this moved you.
